Getting started with Social Media (Part 1)

In part one MTR Digital asks the question ‘Why Social Media?’ and shares some interesting social networking statistics that will help sell the idea of social media engagement to your colleagues and superiors.
Why Social Media?
Social networking websites are the first point of call for millions of internet users, mainstream and industry specific networking sites allow companies the opportunity to engage with a vast number of potential customers/clients.
All companies whether they like it or not are at some point going to be discussed via social networks. Imagine the following scenarios in relation to a recruitment agency, ‘Executive Recruitment’:
|Scenario A||Candidate A has just secured a new position with the help of Executive Recruitment. After successfully landing the role the candidate Tweets to their 90 followers “Starting new job on the 5th can’t wait, thanks to Executive Recruitment for all their help!”. Candidate A has just posted a recommendation of Executive Recruitment to their 90 followers, consequently increasing brand awareness along with potentially promoting registrations etc.|
|Scenario B||Candidate B is disappointed having being registered with Executive Recruitment for several months and not being contacted in regard to any relevant positions. Tagging Executive Recruitment and updating their status on Facebook to “Registered with Executive Recruitment months ago, haven’t heard a thing yet!” Executive Recruitment can respond to Candidate B directing them to relevant resources and content, engaging in a conversation or arranging a meeting if the person or applicable positions warrants it.|
Positive or negative, actively engaging in social media allows a business to manage and respond to what is being said. Having a presence on key social networking sites offers an element of control.
